As a teenager Piet learnt piano, saxophone and drums and decided to earn his living with music. After giving up his music studies after only one semester, he went on to study business economics "so that record companies and the like would be interested". To finance his studies, Piet worked at WORM record store and as a DJ in various discotheques such as "Havana Moon" or "Alter Wartessal", playing first and foremost Rare Groove. His passion for electronic dance music was initially sparked during his long stay in New York back in 1993. During the day he worked in a trendy record store in Bleecker St. and in the evening played Trance in warehouses down by the docks. Back in Cologne, Piet became the regular Party Service DJ at Eins Live radio.
